Professor Stephanie Short is the Chair of the Central Coast, NSW Dying with Dignity Group. Dying with Dignity is an advocacy organisation pursuing a change in the law that will enhance choice at the end of life. They seek legislation that enables competent adults, experiencing unrelievable suffering from a terminal of incurable illness, to receive medical assistance to end their life, peacefully, at a time of their choosing.
The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill was tabled this week in the NSW Parliament. It has multiple sponsors from all parties in the parliament. Stephanie discussed some of the advocacy work the group has done but we mostly talked about people’s personal experiences and how this Bill, when it is hopefully passed into law, will improve the lives and deaths of so many people in this State.
We sincerely thank Stephanie and the local Dying with Dignity group for their work over many years to advocate on behalf of this Bill.
